Modry las, Poland's best golf course
The stunning Gary Player-designed Modry Las Golf Club has been named the best golf course in Poland according to the country’s leading golf website. Already selected as one of Europe’s top 100 courses by Golf World magazine (UK), Modry Las featured prominently in Poland’s national golf awards despite only being opened for a matter of months before voting began.
The West Pomeranian course clinched the top prize at the annual awards thanks to a remarkable show of support that resulted in 18% of all votes cast going in favour of Modry Las. Bearing in mind 15 courses were shortlisted with the runner-up receiving 4% fewer votes, it certainly seems the award was given to a popular winner.
Spectacular
Founder of Polishgolf.pl Roman Fedorczuk said the accolade was even more remarkable since Modry Las had only been open three months by the time the awards were announced. “It’s a beautifully designed course set wonderfully into the countryside,” he noted. “Even before it was fully opened, we were getting reports that it was a spectacular golf course. A lot of people liked it but not a lot of people have played it, after all it’s a new course. It’s located in an area with two other golf courses so not everyone has played Modry Las, yet.”
Despite its new-kid-on-the-block status, Fedorczuk said Modry Las was a deserved recipient of the top award. “The first nine holes are simply spectacular with difficult greens. In my opinion, it’s definitely the best golf course in Poland.”
Remarkable
As well as picking up the award for the best course, Modry Las also had two entries in Poland’s top 10 list of spectacular golf holes; its remarkable par 3 15th hole which banks onto a lake with a deep bunker protecting the front of a picturesque green was the runner up in the category. Add to that two top five finishes in the most demanding golf course category and best kept group, it was obvious Modry Las had a memorable night.
“We’re very pleased to pick up the best course category at the Polishgolf.pl awards,” noted Arthur Gromadzki, chairman of Modry Las. “This is the first time Polish golf courses have been recognised in this manner, so to lead the way at such an early stage of our development is extremely encouraging. The course is getting better all the time as it matures into Gary Player’s wonderful design. We hope to defend our title this year and perhaps add a few more to the trophy cabinet as well.”
